地方に暮らす若者が減ってきている昨今、衰退し消滅してしまう恐れのある方言があると言われています。また東京で制作されたラジオやテレビが全国放送になり、これにより地方でも標準語が広く浸透しているとの見方もあります。これを読んでいる地方出身の皆さんは、TPOに合わせて方言と標準語を使い分けていらっしゃいますか？
方言を用いると、語彙などが違い確かに相互理解が難しい場合もあります。ですが、イントネーションの違いなどは、相互理解の壁にはなりません。にも関わらず、一般に関西人以外のほとんどの人は、東京や関東地方では標準語を話そうとします。
昔むかし、私がCA訓練部にいた頃、機内アナウンスに大阪弁のイントネーションが出てしまい教官に何度も注意された覚えがあります。機内アナウンスはほぼ定型文があり語彙は標準語です。イントネーションが違っても、必要な情報は通じるはずです。にも関わらず、標準語のイントネーションをマスターしなければならないのは、【統一美】を良しとし、それにより○○航空というブランドを生み出しているから仕方ないのでしょうか？今は、関西人と話す時でも関西弁があまり出なくなってしまいました?
イントネーションやアクセントの違いは、異なる方言とは見なされませんが、それを理由に話す機会が減れば、必然的に方言が消滅してしまう可能性に繫がります。日本語だけでなく英語や他言語でも同じ場所に多くの人が参加する会議や学校のクラスでは、方言しか理解出来ない人は理解力の低下など不利益を被りやすく標準語の使用が奨励されているケースもあります。そして、日本語と同じく英語や多言語の方言も衰退しています。

・competence を的確に約す日本語が分からないので能力としていますが、能力と聞けば ability でも capability でも良い気がしてきますね。実はこれらの単語には違いがあり、ability<capability<competenceの様に右に行くほどカバーする範囲が広い(？！)気がします。competenceには、スキルだけでなく、知識や対応・態度も含まれてきますので、この文脈ではcompetenceが一番しっくりきます。
